Lasswade Rugby Football Club is delighted to confirm the appointment of Peter Wright as Men’s Head Coach following the retirement of Brian Hughes at the end of last season.

Having started his Rugby at Lasswade, Peter has gone on to enjoy an international rugby career, with 21 caps for Scotland and a British & Irish Lions Tour to New Zealand in 1993. Peter brings a wealth of experience back to Lasswade both from his playing and coaching careers, most recently with Glasgow High Kelvinside. In his new appointment, Peter will have overall responsibility for the development of the Senior men’s rugby within the Club.

Speaking about his appointment, Peter said “I’m so chuffed and excited to be coming back to the club where it all started for me. Lasswade played a huge part in building my rugby career and I am looking forward to give back to a group of talented young players. I’m also excited to be working alongside ex-teammates Billy Knowles and Ian Barr, to drive Lasswade forward”.

Lasswade President, Billy Knowles, added “We are delighted to welcome Peter back to Lasswade, after all he has achieved in Rugby. It is fantastic to think that from starting his career here; progressing through our minis, school and 1XV teams, the fact that he is returning to his old Club, completing the circle, is excellent for both of us and grassroots rugby”.

In addition, the Club welcomes back Ian Barr, as he resumes his role as Director of Rugby, overseeing the Club’s Rugby development. Ian said “I’m delighted to have been asked by the Committee to resume this role and I am looking forward to be working with Peter, who brings a wealth of experience from his playing and coaching career; from grassroots club rugby right through to National Age Grade team coaching. I also hope to align all aspects of our Rugby, ensuring growth and sustainability through our Minis, School of Rugby and Senior Men & Women’s Teams.”
