George's funeral will be held on Tuesday, 1st October, 2024 at Livingston West Lothian Crematorium at 3pm. Following the funeral the family invite all to attend The Bankton House Hotel, Murieston, Livingston, for refreshments.

Shortly after his 99th birthday Gerge's body has finally given out.

After wartime service with the Royal Navy in the Pacific George returned home and to Lasswade Rugby Club. He played through the rest of the forties and into the fifties including a spell as Captain. He also assisted in the management of the Club as committee member and a period as President.

When he stopped playing he took up referreeing and after that was involved in assessment of referrees. He was authoratative, diligent and fair in both roles.

On Willy Martin's death, George was elected as the Club's Honorary President which post is now, unfortunately, vacant again.

Latterly and until only recently he was a regular attender at 1st XV games, both home and away, joining the team bus at convenient rendezvous points. On one occasion on a trip to Fife the rendezvous arrangements misfired and George missed the bus. Not to be overcome, George arrived half way through the first half, having used two public servce buses to get there - from Livingston.
