Game One vs Dalkeith
Lasswade started the game as the stronger team with some great possession in the opening 10 minutes. A lot of ground made into our oppositions half and some very positive passages of play. We were fighting through some strong tackles and getting the ball through hands well. Some turnovers led to Dalkeith breaking through the gaps exploiting the space we had on the wing with a forward heavy team, leading to Dalkeith scoring twice. Defensively we played well, communicating and making some strong tackles, not allowing Dalkeith to make much ground throughout the game. A Dalkeith injury stopped the game with around five minutes to go with the score finishing Lasswade 0 - 10 Dalkeith. We can hold our heads high as Lasswade showed ourselves to be the stronger team in the opening game of the festival.
Game Two vs Strathendrick
Lasswade started well with some great attacking teamwork on display. Linzi and Rachel were on fire with 2 fantastic runs gaining us several meters. Linzi sadly went off with an injury after a tackle. Amy S had a great pick and go deep into oppositions half. Strathendrick broke through on the wing to score 2 brilliant tries on a row. Lasswade then had a great team attacking phase from the half which led to Claire to scoring Lasswade's first try of the season! Rachel forced a turnover and with some fantastic quick passing to the wing, Liz was able to score our second try. Rachel was running show with 3 huge tackles which forced another turnover, giving Lasswade possession again in the final few minutes of the game. Lasswade again showed some fantastic team attacking play and Liz broke through the defence to score her second try of the game.
The game finished Lasswade 15 - 10 Strathendrick.
Game Three vs Thebans
The final game of the day for Lasswade and Thebans. Both teams had some strong performances throughout the afternoon. Thebans took an early lead scoring a fantastic breakaway try in the first minutes of the game. A great tackle by Mary just before our try line stopped another quick Thebans try and forced a turnover. Lisa and Claire made two phenomenal breakthrough runs to gain ground to the 10m line. Amy S scored a fantastic try for Lasswade, spotting the gaps in the defence and using a quick tap and go restart from a penalty to sprint down the wing to the try line. Thebans broke through and looked like they were going to score in the final seconds of the game but a fantastic tackle by Heini in her first ever game of rugby stopped Thebans in their tracks. Final score Lasswade 5 - 5 Thebans.
